Kick-off for new EU H2020 Research and Innovation Action ACACIA

23.01.2020

Between 21 and 23 January 2020, the kick-off event for the ACACIA project (Advancing the Science for Aviation and Climate; 2020-2023) took place in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. ACACIA is a Horizon 2020 research and innovation action coordinated by the German Aerospace Center DLR that involves 11 participants from 7 European countries.

The overall aim of ACACIA is to improve the scientific understanding of non-CO2 effects of aviation on climate (e.g., ozone and methane from NOx emissions, contrails, indirect aerosol effects). Non-CO2 effects may impact climate as much as aviation’s CO2 emissions, but those impacts are associated with large uncertainties.

The role of UNIVIE in ACACIA is the assessment of gaps in addressing the climate effects of aviation by field campaigns based on past experiments, and the development of concepts for future measurement campaigns.
